Rose Window

Edith Marlowe · No. 307

Rose Window

Rose Window is Edith Marlowe at her most architectural. A grand circular cathedral rose window radiates from a central blossom, ring upon ring of petals and geometric lights cut from cobalt, emerald, amber and ruby glass, every piece outlined in black lead and blazing as sunlight floods through. Marlowe's flawless radial symmetry gives the work a meditative, almost hypnotic balance, the eye drawn endlessly inward and out. The ornate stone-like tracery frames the glass like a true Gothic window. Luminous, intricate and serenely grand, it distils centuries of sacred glass craft into a single dazzling wheel of coloured light — a centrepiece of Vitral Luminism.

An original oil painting on canvas by Edith Marlowe, painted to order — never a reproduction. Radiant stained-glass artworks — translucent jewel-toned glass in bold leaded lines, glowing as if lit by sunlight; nature, birds and celestial motifs.
