Old Town River
Old Town River is Lucien Aubry's love letter to the historic European city. A great cathedral dome and clock tower rise above stacked pastel houses along a calm river, an arched stone bridge crosses the water, and small boats drift beneath a large pale sun in a cool flat sky. Aubry composes entirely in outline-free planes of terracotta, cream, slate and teal, layering them to build depth, then lays a soft paper grain over all to lend the warmth of an old lithograph. Dignified, nostalgic and beautifully ordered, it captures the timeless calm of an old town at the water's edge in pure Voyage Modernism.
