The Golden Riviera
The Golden Riviera is the work that defines Lucien Aubry's Voyage Modernism — and his love of the great age of railway and steamship posters. Aubry builds the scene entirely from flat, outline-free planes of colour: a riviera town of pastel villas and terracotta roofs climbs a hillside above a turquoise bay, cypress and palm silhouettes punctuate the foreground, and a handful of white sailboats drift on the water. Behind the hills sits an enormous golden sun, the warm disc that recurs through the whole series like a signature. Over everything Aubry lays a fine paper grain, so the image carries the tactile warmth of a vintage lithograph. The palette — terracotta, ochre, cream and teal — is pure mid-century Mediterranean. Serene, nostalgic and impeccably composed, it is an invitation to a journey that never ends.
An original oil painting on canvas by Lucien Aubry, painted to order — never a reproduction. Vintage flat-vector travel posters — the world's great cities and coasts in bold geometric colour, glowing suns and warm mid-century palettes with a soft paper grain.
