Desert Capital
Desert Capital is among the most atmospheric works in Lucien Aubry's Voyage Modernism. Domes, minarets and a single slender modern spire rise from rolling golden dunes, palm groves and a calm river lie in the foreground, and a line of camels crosses in silhouette. Above it all glows a warm amber sun in a flat, heat-hazed sky. Aubry builds the city entirely from clean planes of ochre, terracotta, teal and cream — no outlines, just shape and colour — and lays a soft paper grain over the whole to evoke a vintage poster. Exotic, warm and beautifully balanced, it captures the romance of a desert capital at the golden hour in pure flat design.
