Greek Island
Greek Island is one of the most luminous works in Lucien Aubry's travel suite. A whitewashed town of cubic houses and blue-domed churches cascades down a cliff to the deep-blue Aegean, a windmill turning above flights of steps and a sailboat crossing below, all beneath a brilliant sun. Aubry composes in clean outline-free planes of white, cobalt, ochre and teal, layering them to build the steep descent, then lays a fine paper grain over all for the glow of a vintage poster. Bright, breezy and instantly evocative, it distils the dazzling calm of a Cycladic island into elegant flat design.
