Forest of Eyes
Forest of Eyes is the most uncanny work in Silas Crowe's Visionary Macabre. A dense stand of twisted black dead trees, their trunks opening into glowing pale eyes, rises from a floor of swirling blood-red mist scattered with skulls, an eerie sun glimmering through the turbulent impasto sky. Crowe paints the grove with restless, sinuous strokes so the whole forest seems to watch and breathe, the staring eyes turning a landscape into a presence. Dreamlike, paranoid and deeply atmospheric, it taps the primal fear of being watched in the dark wood. Strange, hypnotic and unforgettable, it is visionary surrealism at its most psychologically charged.
