The Raven King
The Raven King is among the most commanding works in Silas Crowe's Visionary Macabre. An enormous black raven spreads its wings atop a throne of bleached bones that rises from a river of crimson marbled liquid, twisted dead trees standing sentinel behind and pale skulls turning in the current below. A swirling impasto sky and a wan sun complete the funereal majesty. Crowe builds the scene from thick, restless oil strokes that lend the bird and its bone-throne a dark heraldic weight, like an emblem from some forgotten kingdom of the dead. Ominous, regal and unforgettable, it is gothic visionary painting at its most theatrical.
An original oil painting on canvas by Silas Crowe, painted to order — never a reproduction. Turbulent visionary oil dreamscapes — blood-red marbled rivers, twisted dead trees and weathered skulls beneath swirling Van-Gogh skies; haunting, sublime and richly textured.
