Desert Oasis
Desert Oasis is Lucien Aubry at his most romantic and warm. Date palms cluster around a still blue pool amid rolling golden dunes, a caravan of camels crosses the ridge and striped tents wait below, with distant flat-topped mesas and a glowing amber sun completing the scene. Aubry uses no outlines, only clean planes of ochre, terracotta, teal and cream, with a soft paper grain that lends the warmth of a vintage travel advertisement. The cool oasis set against the vast warm desert gives the image a deep, restful contrast. Exotic, golden and beautifully composed, it captures the timeless allure of the desert in Voyage Modernism.
