The Zodiac Wheel
The Zodiac Wheel opens Octavia Sterne's Celestial Cartography. Twelve astrological signs ring a central golden sun, each drawn in fine gilt line-work and linked by concentric circles of degrees and houses, the whole set on a field of deep midnight blue with aged-parchment texture and compass roses at the cardinal points. Sterne works in the tradition of Renaissance and Baroque star-atlases, where astronomy met ornament, distilling the heavens into elegant gold geometry. The radial symmetry gives the piece a meditative, almost talismanic balance, and the muted gold against the dark blue lends real old-world richness.
