Phases of the Moon
Phases of the Moon is Octavia Sterne at her most serene. The lunar cycle arcs across the chart, each phase rendered in soft ivory and gold from new to full and back, set within an ornate engraved border of compass roses and fine gilt scrollwork on deep midnight blue. Sterne works in the tradition of the antique astronomical plate, where careful observation was dressed in beautiful ornament. The gentle rhythm of waxing and waning gives the piece a calm, contemplative order, the pale moons glowing against the dark field.
