The Orrery
The Orrery is among the most intricate works in Octavia Sterne's Celestial Cartography. A model of the solar system unfolds as concentric gold orbits circling a central sun, each planet marked along its ring, the whole engraved in fine gilt line-work on aged indigo parchment within a decorative border. Sterne evokes the Enlightenment-era orrery, where the mechanics of the heavens became a thing of beauty.
