Tidal Drift
Tidal Drift is the founding image of Liquid Horizons. Kaia Sterling dissolves a shoreline at sunset into flowing marbled paint — the orange sand and blue sea become glossy ribbons of saturated colour that swirl and braid into one another, a single crisp wave of white foam riding the boundary, beneath a smooth pastel gradient sky. The technique fuses the look of acrylic pouring and paper marbling with the rhythm of op-art: dozens of parallel liquid bands curving in unison, hypnotic and precise. Sterling keeps a real landscape legible beneath the abstraction — we read beach, surf and horizon — yet every surface flows like liquid. The complementary clash of hot orange and cool blue gives the work its electric charge. Vivid, glossy and mesmerising, it turns a familiar coast into pure flowing colour. It is a landscape caught mid-liquefaction — the sea and shore poured, swirled and set.
An original oil painting on canvas by Kaia Sterling, painted to order — never a reproduction. Landscapes dissolved into flowing marbled paint — glossy ribbons of saturated colour, op-art rhythm and liquid horizons.
