The Overlook
The Overlook gives the cyberpunk metropolis its human scale. A lone figure, a dragon embroidered across the back of a worn jacket, sits at the edge of a rooftop and gazes out over an endless neon city as the sun bleeds crimson and violet across the skyline. Nova Reyes stages the oldest of Romantic compositions — the solitary wanderer before the sublime, descended from Caspar David Friedrich — and transposes it into a future of glowing towers, drifting flying cars and signage lit in an invented script. The vast warm sky, banded in magenta and gold, presses down on the cool electric city below, holding the whole image in a tension between the light of nature and the light of the machine. The figure becomes our surrogate, dwarfed and contemplative, taking in a civilisation built of pure luminance. There is awe here, and a quiet ache: the beauty of a world at once thrilling and inhuman. Reyes layers atmosphere, haze and depth until the city seems genuinely infinite. Immersive, cinematic and deeply atmospheric, it is the collection's grandest vista — a meditation on smallness and spectacle, on what it means to sit at the edge of a future too large to hold.
An original oil painting on canvas by Nova Reyes, painted to order — never a reproduction. Retro-futurist vaporwave — neon gradients, perspective grids, chrome and synthwave sunsets in electric magenta, cyan and purple.
