Sundial

Sundial conjures the movement of light from the simplest of means. A warm radial gradient — cream, peach, apricot, soft amber — glows from a soft off-centre source, swept by a single clean arc that curves across the field like sunlight tracking along a wall through the day. Avery achieves a strong sense of time and motion with almost nothing: one gradient, one decisive line. The work sits between Color Field calm and graphic clarity, warm and optimistic without ever becoming literal. Luminous, minimal and quietly uplifting, it brings the feeling of a sunlit room into the painting itself — light and time abstracted into a single, generous gesture.
