Meridian

Meridian is a study in the eloquence of a single line. Sloane Avery divides the canvas into broad, softly graded bands — warm bone above, deep dusk teal below — then lets them meet at one razor-crisp horizontal seam, a thin band of burnt sienna where two atmospheres of colour touch. The work descends directly from Color Field painting, but Avery's edges are cleaner, her temperature cooler, the mood more architectural than sublime. Everything depends on that meridian: the place where the painting holds its breath. Serene, balanced and quietly modern, it brings the calm of a far horizon into the room — abstraction reduced to atmosphere and one decisive moment.
