Storm Beacon
Storm Beacon is Marisol Vey's most dramatic seascape. A lighthouse stands firm on a rocky cliff while its beam slices through a turbulent tessellated sky of slate, indigo and gold, and below it the sea hurls itself against the rocks in bold mosaic tiles of teal, white and deep blue. Vey uses the dark leaded grout to carry the violence of the water and the jagged stone, so the whole surface seems to heave and crash. Yet at the centre the steady gold beam holds — a note of human constancy against the storm. Powerful, cinematic and luminous, it pairs the sublime energy of nature with the quiet courage of the lighthouse.
