The Pleiades

The Pleiades is Octavia Sterne at her most lyrical. The famous star cluster takes form as seven veiled sisters among a scatter of gilded stars, mountains and a sun rendered in gold at the chart's edges, the whole set on deep midnight blue within a ring of degrees and corner compass roses. Sterne draws on the myth of the seven daughters turned to stars, her delicate gold line-work giving the figures a dreamlike grace. The interplay of legend and astronomy, glowing against the dark field, is the heart of the piece. Poetic, decorative and quietly enchanting, it captures the oldest of sky-stories in elegant old-world gold.
