The Northern Sky
The Northern Sky is Octavia Sterne at her most classical. A circular map of the northern hemisphere's night sky fills the chart, the constellations linked by fine gold lines and marked with gilded stars over a deep blue field, an ornate compass rose crowning the top and a ring of degrees framing the whole. Sterne draws directly on the great planispheres of the old star-atlases, distilling the entire visible heavens into one elegant golden wheel. The balance of dense constellation detail and open dark sky gives it a satisfying depth. Scholarly, decorative and beautifully composed, it turns the whole northern sky into a single luminous work of art.
