Neon Falls
Neon Falls is the most dreamlike vision in Reyes's cyberpunk suite. A lone figure sits at the water's edge before an impossible city where luminous waterfalls cascade between neon towers, a vast moon rising behind them and a small boat drifting across the glowing river. The artist fuses the natural sublime — moonlight, falling water — with the artificial sublime of the neon metropolis, until it becomes impossible to say where landscape ends and machine begins. The palette is cool and jewel-like, all electric violet, cyan and magenta reflected and re-reflected in the black water, and the composition carries the hush of a held breath. Like the best of the genre, it trades narrative for atmosphere: we are simply invited to sit, as the figure does, and absorb the spectacle. There is serenity here rather than the usual cyberpunk menace — a future imagined as wonder rather than warning. The waterfalls lend movement to the stillness, the moon lends scale, the lone watcher lends feeling. Mysterious, opulent and quietly transporting, it is a nocturne for an imagined world — a place that exists only in the glow between memory and dream, and all the more beautiful for being impossible.
An original oil painting on canvas by Nova Reyes, painted to order — never a reproduction. Retro-futurist vaporwave — neon gradients, perspective grids, chrome and synthwave sunsets in electric magenta, cyan and purple.
