Mirror Valley
Mirror Valley is Marisol Vey's grandest landscape in mosaic. Snow-capped peaks rise across the upper canvas and return, inverted, in the glassy stillness of an alpine lake below, the two halves meeting at a crisp tessellated waterline. Vey builds the slopes, pines and reflections entirely from palette-knife tiles that shift from cool sapphire shadow on the shaded faces to warm sunlit gold on the lit ones, so the whole valley seems to breathe with morning light. The dark leaded grout gives the scene the structure of a great window. Serene, expansive and luminous, it proves that the mosaic-impasto language can hold not just intimate subjects but the full sweep of the sublime.
