The Embrace
The Embrace is Marisol Vey's most tender composition, and the one where her mosaic method becomes most emotive. Two lovers are wrapped together, their flowing forms and robes dissolving into thousands of jewel-toned tesserae of rose, gold, violet and teal, so the boundary between the two figures blurs into a single shimmering field. Around them Vey sets a tessellated halo of warm light, the tiles brightening toward the centre as if the pair generated their own glow. The dark leaded lines hold the embrace together like the cames of a stained-glass window devoted to love. Intimate, radiant and quietly devotional, it is the emotional heart of the Tessellated Luminism series.
