Autumn Harvest
Autumn Harvest is Cornelis Maes at his warmest. Tall sunflowers nod above grapes, pears, a split squash and scattered chestnuts heaped on a carved stone ledge, the whole bathed in a golden autumnal light against deep shadow. Maes celebrates the season of plenty in the Dutch tradition, the heavy sunflower heads and the open flesh of the squash rendered with rich, tactile glazing. The warm palette of gold, amber and russet glows out of the darkness with baroque generosity. Abundant, mellow and beautifully observed, it captures the ripeness of autumn as a sumptuous old-master still life — harvest turned into a feast for the eye.
An original oil painting on canvas by Cornelis Maes, painted to order — never a reproduction. Sumptuous old-master still lifes — lavish flowers, fruit and banquet pieces in dramatic chiaroscuro, hyper-detailed and richly glazed in the manner of the Dutch masters.
