Glassfire
In this cubist interpretation, the glassblower's studio is deconstructed into a lattice of amber, ultramarine and molten amber tones, each plane suggesting a different moment of the craft. The figure of the artisan is rendered as intersecting angular forms: the elongated torso, the delicate fingers, and the curved pipe of the blowpipe are all presented simultaneously from multiple viewpoints. The glowing crucible spills molten crystal that erupts in shards of translucent orange and ruby, capturing the fleeting heat of dusk as fragmented light. Around the central figure, the workshop's tiled floor and vaulted ceiling are suggested by overlapping rectangles and trapezoids, their patterns refracted by the reflected glow of the furnace. The composition’s rhythm mirrors the rhythmic breathing of the glassblower, with repetitive angular motifs that pulse outward like a visual breath. By flattening the space and juxtaposing the interior and exterior light sources, the work conveys both the tactile viscosity of molten glass and the ethereal quality of its solidifying forms. Subtle hints of Venetian architecture—arched windows and distant gondola silhouettes—are abstracted into geometric silhouettes, anchoring the scene within its historic locale while preserving the analytical detachment of cubist abstraction.
An original oil painting on canvas by Eira Voss, painted to order — never a reproduction. Eira Voss reimagines Cubism with a luminous metallic palette and tactile surface, creating a fresh sub‑theme that blends reflective planes with translucent layers.
