Quiet Harmony
The cubist rendering of 'Quiet Harmony' fragments the tranquil Japanese tea ceremony into a mosaic of muted jade, ivory and blush pink planes. The matcha bowl, rendered as a series of concentric ovals and angular shards, reveals both its interior depth and the delicate rim in a single glance. The ceremonial host’s hands are depicted in intersecting rectangles, each finger captured from a slightly different angle, emphasizing the careful choreography of the ritual. Cherry blossoms float as stylised petals, reduced to rose‑coloured triangles that drift across the composition, their softness contrasted by the crisp geometry of the tatami mat, suggested by overlapping rectangles in warm earth tones. The surrounding tea room is abstracted into a lattice of shoji screens and bamboo beams, their linear structures broken into fragmented panels that hint at the interplay of light and shadow. The overall rhythm of the piece evokes the measured pace of the ceremony, with repeated geometric motifs that pulse like quiet breaths. By collapsing temporal progression into a single, flattened space, the work invites contemplation of the ceremony’s spiritual balance, translating the subtle harmony of sight, scent and taste into a visual language of colour and form.
An original oil painting on canvas by Eira Voss, painted to order — never a reproduction. Eira Voss reimagines Cubism with a luminous metallic palette and tactile surface, creating a fresh sub‑theme that blends reflective planes with translucent layers.
