Iron Mountain

The cubist tableau titled 'Iron Mountain' disassembles the early steam locomotive into a series of interlocking geometric facets, each rendered in a palette of iron greys, smoky charcoal, and alpine pine greens. The locomotive's massive boiler is depicted as a series of overlapping cylinders and angled planes, allowing the viewer to glimpse simultaneously the pistons, the firebox and the intricate network of rivets. The billowing smoke is rendered as fragmented clouds of translucent white and muted violet, interspersed with sharp angular spikes that suggest both turbulence and the cold altitude of the Alpine Pass. The surrounding mountains are reduced to layered triangles and trapezoids, their slopes hinted at through slanted brushwork that rises and falls across the canvas. The track itself becomes a rhythmic series of diagonal lines, guiding the eye upward in a visual ascent that mirrors the engine's climb. By presenting multiple perspectives within a single plane, the composition captures the dynamism of industrial progress against a timeless landscape. Subtle reflections of distant villages and a solitary pine are hinted at through softened geometric silhouettes, grounding the mechanical spectacle within the pastoral narrative of the Alps.

An original oil painting on canvas by Eira Voss, painted to order — never a reproduction. Eira Voss reimagines Cubism with a luminous metallic palette and tactile surface, creating a fresh sub‑theme that blends reflective planes with translucent layers.
