Neon Nigiri

Neon Nigiri

Cassia Vort’s “Neon Nigiri” reimagines a traditional sushi platter as a luminous signage installation, each piece of fish outlined in glowing kanji characters that flicker with the vibrancy of Tokyo’s night streets. The composition is rendered in flat, saturated colours—crimson tuna, amber salmon, jade avocado—each slice rendered with crisp, black outlines reminiscent of comic‑book art. The kanji, illuminated in electric pink and cyan, hovers above the fish, converting the culinary subject into a typographic spectacle. Vort’s use of bold, flat colour fields and stark line work situates the piece firmly within Pop Art, while the neon glow and stylised lettering reference Japanese advertising culture. The juxtaposition of edible art with public signage critiques the commodification of food as visual branding, suggesting that even the most intimate culinary experiences are subject to the visual language of mass media. By turning sushi into neon signage, Vort highlights the cross‑cultural exchange between East and West, celebrating the exuberant aesthetics of both traditional gastronomy and contemporary pop visuality.

An original oil painting on canvas by Cassia Vort, painted to order — never a reproduction. Cassia Vort reimagines Pop Art through a luminous neon‑pastel hybrid, blending classic screen‑print crispness with hand‑painted glitch textures. The work feels both retro and futuristic, inviting collectors to experience familiar icons through a vivid, electro‑gloss finish.
