Spice Souk
Spice Souk is Idris Vale at his most richly coloured. In crisp isometric view, a covered market unfolds as a grid of vaulted sandstone alleys roofed with striped awnings, stalls heaped with mounds of vivid spices in saffron, paprika and turmeric, all gathered around a central domed hall on a gold-inlaid floor. Vale renders the arcades, the bright canopies and the colourful wares with octane-render clarity and warm light. The scene hums with imagined bustle and aroma, the eye darting from stall to glowing stall. Lively, detailed and sumptuous, it captures the sensory abundance of the souk as a jewelled diorama.
An original oil painting on canvas by Idris Vale, painted to order — never a reproduction. Luxurious isometric renders of Moorish palace architecture — sandstone courtyards, turquoise pools and intricate gold arabesque inlay, like jewelled dioramas.
