Koi Rising

Marcus Kade · No. 119

Koi Rising

Koi Rising sets an Eastern symbol loose in the Western alley. A single vivid koi twists upward across a weathered concrete wall, its scales sprayed in orange, white and black, water-like drips and splatter trailing in its wake. In legend the koi that swims upstream becomes a dragon; Kade keeps that meaning — perseverance, transformation, the climb against the current — but translates it into the raw idiom of spray and stencil. The dynamic diagonal gives the fish real momentum against the static grey. Vivid, fluid and full of upward drive, it weds the calm of an Eastern motif to the grit of the street into something genuinely uplifting.

An original oil painting on canvas by Marcus Kade, painted to order — never a reproduction. Urban street art — spray paint, stencil and oilstick over concrete-textured canvas, with drips, overspray and raw graphic energy.
