The Hummingbird

The Hummingbird is among the most delicate works in Mirabel Crane's Filigree Vectorism. A hummingbird hovers at a spray of curling trumpet flowers, its wings and feathers picked out in intricate fine linework that suggests a blur of motion held still. Crane frames the scene with symmetrical damask flourishes and a radiant sun medallion on a soft green-and-cream gradient, the flowers' tendrils curling to meet the bird. The result is light, graceful and full of quiet life. Intricate, harmonious and elegant, it shows Crane's decorative language at its most tender — a small jewel of nature transformed into refined art-nouveau ornament.

An original oil painting on canvas by Mirabel Crane, painted to order — never a reproduction. Ornate art-nouveau decorative art — a single subject in intricate swirling linework framed by damask flourishes and radiant suns, on soft gradient grounds.
