Airborne Sonata
In “Airborne Sonata”, Vex constructs a transparent glass piano that releases coloured vapor whenever a key is struck, filling the surrounding space with ribbons of cyan and magenta. The instrument’s crystalline body refracts ambient light, rendering each note as a fleeting plume that drifts upward, dissolving into the atmosphere like an audible brushstroke. Vex’s colour palette—cool cyan against warm magenta—creates a visual harmony that mirrors the tonal balance of a piano piece, while the translucency of the glass underscores the Chromatic Pop fascination with the intersection of materiality and colour. The composition frames the piano against a stark, muted background, allowing the vapour ribbons to dominate the visual narrative. Each plume is rendered with delicate gradients, suggesting both motion and stillness as the vapour lingers before dissipating. Vex’s attention to detail captures the tactile quality of the glass, the softness of the vapour, and the kinetic energy of performance, all while maintaining a neutral, observational tone that invites viewers to experience the synesthetic dialogue between sound and colour.
An original oil painting on canvas by Liora Vex, painted to order — never a reproduction. Liora Vex reimagines Chromatic Pop through a luminous holographic technique that fuses traditional acrylic with reflective foil and subtle digital glitch textures, creating a kinetic visual energy that feels both tactile and otherworldly.
