Caravanserai

Caravanserai is Idris Vale at his most evocative. Seen in crisp isometric view, a great fortified desert inn encloses a sandy courtyard with arched stables and traveller's rooms on every side, a central well and a small turquoise pool at its heart, camels resting and bales stacked beneath gold-inlaid gateways. Vale renders the crenellated walls, deep arched shadows and warm desert light with diorama precision. The scene breathes the romance of the old trade roads — a place of rest at the edge of the dunes.
