Saffron Sundial
Saffron Sundial situates a massive stone sundial within a desert oasis, its broad shadow stretching golden across sun‑baked sand to align with a distant mirage of a phoenix rising from molten light. The sundial’s stone, a warm, ochre‑tinged granite, absorbs the harsh midday sun, while the shadow it casts is rendered in a buttery saffron hue that seems to pulse with an inner rhythm. Beyond the oasis, the phoenix mirage flickers in incandescent reds and amber, its form both elusive and defiantly present. Mire’s Chromatic Temporalism is manifest in the way colour delineates the flow of time: the static solidity of the sundial is juxtaposed with the fleeting, fiery ascent of the phoenix, suggesting that moments are both measured and reborn. The composition balances the geometric precision of the sundial’s gnomon with the organic, almost ethereal curvature of the mirage, creating a tension between permanence and transience. Light, heat and colour converge to evoke a contemplative stillness, as if the viewer is standing at the threshold of an ancient ritual where time is marked not only by the sun’s path but also by the rebirth of a mythic bird in a blaze of saffron and flame.
An original oil painting on canvas by Elara Mire, painted to order — never a reproduction. A visionary synthesis of kinetic color theory and layered time perception, where paint behaves like a visual chronometer.
