Glitched Venus
In "Glitched Venus", Lysander Vale reinterprets the classical ideal of beauty through a digital lens, portraying the goddess as a neon‑outlined statue that appears to dissolve into a cascade of glitches. The neon contour, rendered in electric magenta and cyan, outlines the familiar curves of Venus while the lower half fractures into pixel‑sized artefacts that flicker and dissolve into the surrounding magenta cloudscape. Vale’s use of negative space allows the background to pulse with a soft, ambient glow, echoing the static hiss of an old CRT monitor. The composition balances classical composition – the statue’s pose, the subtle contrapposto – with a modern aesthetic of data corruption, suggesting a tension between permanence and transience. The magenta clouds themselves are rendered with a soft, vaporous texture, their edges blurred as if filtered through a low‑resolution filter. Vale’s brushwork oscillates between crisp line work for the neon outline and a more diffuse, grainy technique for the glitching forms, creating a layered visual experience. The piece speaks to the vaporwave fascination with the decay of media, positioning the mythic female form as both an object of reverence and a casualty of digital entropy.
An original oil painting on canvas by Lysander Vale, painted to order — never a reproduction. A fresh take on Vaporwave that fuses pastel glitch aesthetics with hand‑painted brushstroke overlays, creating a luminous, tactile experience that feels both digital and painterly.
