Lunar Ascension

In "Lunar Ascension," Vire orchestrates a nocturnal ballet of light and material, situating a fleet of transparent, crystal‑filled balloons above a moonlit carnival. The balloons, each a perfect sphere of refractive glass, float weightlessly, catching and scattering the kaleidoscopic illumination of rides below. Vire’s palette is dominated by silvery moonlight, punctuated by bursts of carnival colour—ruby reds, sapphire blues, and citrine yellows—that ripple across the balloon surfaces like fleeting memories. The artist employs a delicate glazing technique, allowing the crystalline interiors to glow from within, suggesting an inner chronology that records each passing moment of the festival. The carnival itself, rendered in soft brushstrokes, becomes a muted backdrop, its sounds implied rather than heard, reinforcing the sense of suspended time. Vire’s composition draws the eye upward along invisible currents, guiding the viewer through layers of reflected light that dissolve the boundary between the terrestrial and the ethereal. By juxtaposing the fleeting nature of a balloon’s ascent with the enduring rhythm of the moon’s orbit, the work explores how transient celebrations are etched into the larger, immutable chrono‑phenomena that govern the night sky.

An original oil painting on canvas by Elowen Vire, painted to order — never a reproduction. A speculative visual language that fuses temporal distortion with hyper‑real materiality, exploring the way moments fracture and recombine under shifting light.
